新学期が始まって２週間ほどが経ちました。新年度生活、慣れてきましたでしょうか。

さて、高校１年生は「基本時制」を扱っています。現在・過去・未来、それぞれの違いを説明しています。

前回は「太陽は東から昇り、西に沈む。」を英作文に書いてもらいました。皆さん、どれくらい英作文が思い浮かびますか？

標準解答は、　The sun rises in the east and sets in the west.　という形です。さて、ほかにどのような表現が思い浮かぶでしょうか？

せっかくなので、いろいろと調べてみました。

・The sun rises in the east and goes down in the west.　…　やや口語的。

・The sun comes up in the east and goes down in the west.　…　やや口語的。

・The sun appears in the east and disappears in the west.　…　現れる／消える　という視点で。

・The sun appeared over the horizon and slowly sank below the horizon.　…　やや描写的。

・（昇るだけですが…）The sun peeks over the horizon.　…　描写的。
